2004 One Book for Greater Hartford Kickoff

45 a.m. – 11:30 a.m.  2004 One Book for Greater Hartford Bilingual Workshop (English and Spanish) on how to lead a book discussion will be led by Miguel Garcia-Colon of the Byram Shubert Library, Greenwich, CT. The workshop will include helpful tips and cultural insights. A Spanish interpreter will be available.
     11:30 a.m. – 12:15 p.m.  Lunch featuring Puerto Rican cuisine.
    12:15-2:00 p.m.  Community Conversation - workshop participants take part in a community conversation on the 2004 One Book for Greater Hartford selected title When I Was Puerto Rican by Esmeralda Santiago. The book discussion will be co-led by award-winning writer, columnist and editor Lary Bloom, author of The Writer Within: A Guide to Creative Nonfiction and community leader Edna Negrón Rosario, regional director of the Puerto Rico Federal Affairs Administration. A Spanish interpreter will be available.
 Free and open to the public, the One Book for Greater Hartford Kickoff will begin at 9:45 a.m. and end at 2:00 p.m. Registration is required and can be made by calling (860) 695-6342. The training session is geared toward individuals interested in leading a One Book discussion for their organization or community group. Screening of "Writing a Life," the just released film portrait of Esmeralda Santiago. The documentary represents a 24-year collaboration between the best-selling author and her filmmaker husband, Frank Cantor. Cantor, co-producer, will lead the post-film discussion.
