11:15 a.m. Welcome Address
Honorary chairperson Dr. Sheenu Shrinivasan, primary founder of the Connecticut Valley Hindu Temple Society in Middletown; former Glastonbury town councilperson; and author of The Vedic Wedding, a book about Hindu marriage ceremonies.
11:30 a.m. Rhythm Workshop
Ethnomusicologist David Nelson, gives a 90-minute interactive presentation on the rhythm language called solkattu or konakkol and teaches participants the fundamental patterns and exercises in a variety of talas (meters). Since all South Indian performing artists use solkattu to communicate and teach rhythmic ideas, this workshop will provide an "under-the-hood" look at one of the world's great rhythm traditions.
12:00-4:30 p.m. Indian Market
Sample assorted Indian food and drinks, including Samosas, Lassee and sweets--Burfi, Gulab Jamon & Jalebi, as well as Chai and Indian-style Lemonade. Shop for fine handcrafted pieces and treasures from the Himalayas at the Black Yak Trading Company. Play bridge and chess. Purchase a copy of The Death of Vishnu.

3:00-3:30 p.m. Kathak Indian Dance Performance by Rachna Rayma Agrawal
Performer, educator, choreographer and CT Master Teaching Artist Rachna Agrawal performs the classical North Indian Kathak dance, which originated over 2000 years ago as a temple dance. The ancient Kathikas of India, from whom the name of the dance was derived, were professional storytellers.
